Eruv Boundaries
The Toronto Eruv runs through the heart of the city
The eruv boundary follows a combination of CN and CP rail corridors, major expressways, hydro lines, and fencing. Below is the full four-section description, traced on the map above.

Western
Lansdowne & Dupont → Highway 400 & 407
The western border follows the CN tracks north starting in the Lansdowne and Dupont area. It then follows Caledonia north until Bentworth, where it proceeds east to Allen Road. Yorkdale and access to the 401 are not in the eruv; the entire 401 and all of its access points have been excluded. The eruv continues north of the 401 and extends west to the 400, where it follows the 400 north until the 407.
- —The 401 can ONLY be crossed at Bathurst, Wilson and Bayview.
- —The 401 CANNOT be crossed at Keele, Dufferin, Avenue or Yonge.
- —Bentworth is NOT in the eruv.
- —Dupont is NOT in the eruv.
- —Humber Hospital is in the eruv, but can only be reached from Wilson Ave. by walking north of the 401.
Northern
Highway 400 & 407 → Tracks west of Leslie
Travel east using the 407 to Dufferin, and continue as above to Major Mackenzie. Stay on the south side of Major Mackenzie. A little to the east of Yonge Street the eruv uses the CN track to go south to the 407. Then follow the 407 east as your northern boundary guide until you reach the 404. Travel south on the 404 until John Street. Follow the tracks west to Leslie Street. Cross John Street and turn east back to the 404. Follow the 404 to Steeles Ave. to the east side of Shoppes on Steeles and 404. Travel west at Steeles back to the train tracks west of Leslie.
- —Mackenzie Health Hospital is NOT in the eruv.
- —John Street east of Leslie is NOT in the eruv.
- —Steeles Ave. between the 404 and the tracks is NOT in the eruv.
- —Shouldice Hospital is in the eruv. North York General is NOT in the eruv.
- —One IS allowed to carry across Yonge Street from Steeles north, all the way to the 407.
Eastern
Highway 404 → CP tracks (Eglinton-Laird)
The eastern border follows the 404 south from the 407 until Steeles, at which point it turns west until the CN tracks west of Leslie. It then follows the tracks south until they cross Leslie, south of the 401. Follow Leslie south until Eglinton, at which point the eruv uses hydro wires for a short stretch in the Eglinton-Laird industrial area to connect to the CP tracks running east and west.
- —Steeles Avenue is outside the eruv east of the railroad tracks.
- —Sunnybrook Hospital and Shouldice Hospital ARE in the eruv.
- —North York General is NOT in the eruv.
Southern
CP tracks — Laird to Lansdowne
Travel along the CP tracks, located north of Dupont and south of St. Clair, starting at Laird at the east end until Lansdowne at the west end.
- —From Yonge to Lansdowne the above-mentioned CP tracks are situated north of Dupont.
- —Toronto's primary hospital hub in downtown Toronto, consisting of Mount Sinai, Toronto General and the Hospital for Sick Children, is NOT in the eruv.
Highway Crossings
Where the highways may and may not be crossed
- —Crossing the 401 at Keele, Dufferin, Avenue Road and Yonge is PROHIBITED.
- —Crossing under the 401 at Bathurst and at Wilson is PERMITTED.
- —Crossing the 401 at Bayview is PERMITTED.
- —Crossing the 407 on ANY street, including Dufferin, Bathurst and Yonge, is NOT permitted.
- —Every major highway, 400, 401 and 407, is NOT in the eruv.
- —There are four crossover sections where one may continuously carry under or over the 401: at Wilson, at Bathurst (near Agudah and near No Frills), and at Bayview.
- —There is NO crossover currently from the North Eruv to Richmond Hill.

- —Humber Memorial Hospital Can only be reached from Wilson Ave., by walking north of the 401.

- —Mount Sinai, Toronto General, Hospital for Sick Children Toronto's primary hospital hub in downtown Toronto.
Before you carry
It is incumbent upon everyone to confirm that the eruv is kosher. One may not assume that it is kosher.
